If you have had first hand experience with the new heretic, both playing as or with one in the round, how did it compare with your experience with the previous version of heretic?
New heretic is miles better giving heretic a new breath of air and actual progression so you can finally use the tools it has
stupidly overpowered comparing to old heretic, never liked them anyway and now theyre even stronger
It felt largely the same to be on the crew side of the heretical nonsense. A great feeling of "Oh, I can't wait for the round just to be ended by this guy ascending" whenever I see a heretic knowledge rift. As a non heretic, it is still just as miserable to interact with.
I have only gotten to try it once. I cant compare super in depth, But I am very familiar with how heretic was before this rework.
I think its better than before. Its better to play and better to fight.
You have a solid chance of capturing a heretic that is powerful now and while playing as heretic you dont get 3 bars of spells anymore.
There are more gimmick possibilites with the side knowledge shop.
Despite the removal of crosspathing, the highs have only gotten higher (having less buttons to press doesn't mean anything because you already didn't have brainspace to keep track of and use said buttons nine times out of ten) and little has fundamentally changed.
Old heretic was just unpleasant to fight sometimes. Good heretic players could speedrun to get the handful of abilities that countered all of their common counters (cough cough ashen passing), and was very centralized on the paths that had easy access to those. New heretic has felt more evened out

Its a mixed bag, sometimes its arguably better since every heretic has their own abilities they're locked to rather than stealing from the others, but some feel still a lot more overtuned and annoying to face in general
Got caught up with the problem heretic previously had when trying to do rituals of scrambling about for materials that aren't there. Little difference in that regard. Playing with a heretic that wasn't myself, the robes give more clarity as to what a heretic can do. Ultimately they still use the green hand and then hit you until you die.
Over time I may notice the lack of cross-pathing more but so far they're still the huge pain in the ass that they've always been. I'd rather deal with a wizard than a heretic. At least wizards can have funny gimmicks.
Blade break being gone after a certain point is improvement, but this is still the least fun antag to fight against. It's still overtuned and I don't enjoy fighting vs heretics. They still have too many get out of jail free cards; their armor is massively improved to the point of frustration. It's not an antagonist you can simply ignore because ascension means the lone heretic gets to have fun whereas every one else must suffer(with the exception of moon heretic ascension). Ascensions have been overbuffed to the point of ridiculousness(moon heretic ascension especially) and the development team's view on post-ascension heretic gameplay is completely unfun because of the previous point. The most discouraging thing is that the main dev for heretic is completely resistant to any negative feedback--which means that heretic is just as unfun to fight vs as it was previously.

overall, dramatic improvement over the old heretic system. Still haven't seen all the new paths yet but happy with the direction of the new stuff

Summons used to be mostly from knock heretics, and a minor assistant to the heretic that provided backup. Now they're a personal army for every heretic and can do an incredible amount of damage just on their own.
